Ebensburg seeks Christmas parade participants
EBENSBURG -- Organizers of Ebensburg’s Annual Christmas parade are seeking participants for this year’s event on Saturday, December 3rd at 10 a.m. in downtown Ebensburg. The theme for this year’s parade is “The Magic of Christmas.” “We encourage everyone to get involved,” said Christine Strugala, Community Development Director. “Whether you enter a float or march, we hope everyone will get into the holiday spirit.” Following the parade, Sounds of the Season, featuring local talent, will take place at the Cambria County Courthouse. Performances will fill the rotunda of the courthouse with beautiful music celebrating the holiday season. Prior to these events, the annual Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on December 2nd at 6:30 p.m. in Gazebo Park. Ebensburg Streetscape project complete and dedication set
EBENSBURG -- After four years of hard work and dedication, Ebensburg Borough officials are happy to announce the completion of a $1.3 million Streetscape beautification project in downtown Ebensburg. “This project is probably one of the best things that could have ever happened to Ebensburg,” said Ebensburg Mayor, Charles Moyer. “We are making a statement in the region.” Straw Construction Company of Boswell, PA was the general contractor for the project, which consisted of installing new sidewalks (half with a brick-patterned concrete) and new curbing. 65 Chanticlear Pear trees were donated by the L. Robert Kimball & Associates and planted along the sidewalks. 58 Victorian-style light standards were installed to accommodate banners, flags and decorations. Power outlets were installed on each light standard. The main roads were paved. Brick-patterned crosswalks were added to form a square in the center of town and were placed along High and Center Streets to help tie the downtown together aesthetically. The crosswalks will soon have pedestrian crossing signs in the middle of them to facilitate pedestrian crossing. The County’s Rails-to-Trails project was connected to the downtown business district through a brick-patterned corridor along Cherry Street; this provides a direct link from the trail to restaurants, banks, shops, courthouse, historical society, etc. Several alleys were also patterned to tie in with the look of downtown. New banners, bike racks, benches, Christmas decorations and trash receptacles are currently being added to the downtown. All of these items will increase the overall attractiveness of the area. “All of these additions will help visitors and residents feel comfortable and want to spend more time in our town,” said Deborah Nesbella, President of Ebensburg Borough Council. Gazebo Park, located at the main intersection of downtown, has also been renovated as part of the project. Engraved bricks were replaced with new ones, a deteriorated fence was removed, new landscaping was planted and the park was rewired for decorating purposes. The park was rundown with cracked benches and bricks prior to this project. It was also vandalized and closed in. The project has opened up the park to the community and made it an ornament of downtown for all to enjoy. Ebensburg Borough’s Streetscape Project was funded through two state grants, donations, property owner investment and Borough cash reserves. This project was completed because the Ebensburg community was willing to work together in every respect. **A Streetscape dedication will be held in conjunction with the Borough’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, December 2nd at 6:30 p.m. (This event is Free and open to the public!)
