Ebensburg plans for Homecoming celebration
EBENSBURG -- The 10 annual Ebensburg Homecoming celebration will be held this year on Saturday, July 29th at Lake Rowena and in Downtown Ebensburg. A Homecoming Bazaar will be held downtown from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. and an Ebensburg Community Yard Sale will also take place. A map of yard sale locations will be available one week prior to the event, starting on July 24th, at the Ebensburg Borough Office and on our web site at www.ebensburgmainstreet.com. Maps will also be available at the Ebensburg Area Business Commission tent in the First National Bank parking lot on July 29th.
-- “Homecoming is always the kickoff of our weekly farmers market in Ebensburg,” said Christine Strugala, Community Development Director. “The market runs all summer on Saturdays from 9am-noon, in the First National Bank parking lot, through September 23rd.”
-- The band “Stillwater” will perform at Lake Rowena from 8pm-11pm and there will be spectacular fireworks at dusk.
-- Additional events include a 5K race hosted by the Central Cambria Cross Country Boosters. This is the second year for the race, which will incorporate the Ghost Town Trail this year. The Young Peoples Community Center will also host the 2nd annual parent/child golf outing at Appledale Golf Course.

Mountain Days are back
-- Prince Gallitzin State Park is a quiet, peaceful treasure that many from the area enjoy for fishing, boating, hiking, camping and more. But in the past, the sounds of serenity were drowned out by the sounds of kids laughing, live entertainment, craft vendors doing business and more with the start of Mountain Days that took place in August of each year.
-- Through the years, however, the Mountain Days quieted down, and ended like every good summer does.
-- But now after 15 years, Mountain Days is coming back, thanks to the local Glendale Valley businesses that have plugged back into the concept, so the sounds of the fun of Mountain Days can once again be heard!
-- The event is slated once again for its traditional first week of August this year, with specific dates set for Friday, August 4th through Sunday, August 6th, 2006. A variety of activities are being planned now by businesses and organizers, including so far an antique car show, a Karaoke contest, an auction, “hands-on” boat giveaway, live entertainment throughout the weekend at various locations, children’s activities, craft and food vendors with festival specialties, and more. The mascot of the weekend is the original “Mountain Man” that will make his way down out of the mountains to meet and greet visitors all weekend long.
-- And not just business owners are being asked to climb aboard the project boat! Residents are also invited to hold yard sales as part of the Community Yard Sale scheduled to last through the weekend.
-- The main goal of the weekend is to get the fireworks back, organizers say. If a lot of business and residential community buy-in takes place, soliciting a sponsor for the fireworks will be easier, making the event go off with a bang! And helping to support the business community with a few extra bucks in order to start planning for the 2007 events!.
-- And it’s not just the local business community saying so! PA Representative Gary Haluska, attended the first reunion meeting to show his support for the reinstatement of the event in his legislative district and back yard.
-- The event is on! Anyone interested in becoming a food vendor or craft vendor, is invited to contact Terri M. Any business that has not attended the planning sessions is welcome join in, and anyone interested in attending one of the planning meetings is invited to do so Mondays at 7p.m. at the Anchor Inn.

Free shuttle to be introduced for Ebensburg Homecoming
EBENSBURG -- The Ebensburg Homecoming celebration, to be held at Lake Rowena this Saturday, July 29 th, continues to be one of the areas most popular events.
-- “This event continues to grow in popularity,” said Christine Strugala, Community Development Director. “The homecoming committee has decided to add a free shuttle this year for residents and visitors to utilize.”
-- The free shuttle will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and run roughly every twenty minutes, through 12:00 a.m. The shuttle will loop from Central Cambria Middle School (corner of Center Street and Highland Avenue) to Lake Rowena and then return.
-- “The committee feels the middle school is a convenient location for everyone to access,” said Strugala. “The shuttle will be a nice addition, especially for the elderly who live in town and maybe do not have access to a car.”
-- Parking will also be available at Lake Rowena, but the committee is encouraging all to use the free shuttle if possible.

Festival gets breath of new life
FALLENTIMBER -- A group of business owners and Prince Gallitzin State Park are sending a shock wave through the local community.
-- Although almost a generation is split on remembering what used to be Mountain Days in and around Prince Gallitzin State Park, reformed Mountain Days committee says this reinvented event will be one that brings back good memories for those who remember the old days, and it will begin a fun-filled tradition for those who weren’t around before.
-- Slated for August 4-6, 2006, Glendale area businesses and Prince Gallitzin State Park personnel have put their resources together to bring about a busy schedule of events for the weekend. From helicopter rides, craft vendors, a weekend-long community yard sale, hayrides to a hands-on boat contest for one of 500 ticket holders to win a 16-foot bass boat with a trailer from Glendale Boat Sales, to the grand finale- the beloved fireworks that will end the event on Sunday evening at the Glendale Lake in the park, the Mountain Days won’t belly-flop in the water this year!
-- The event was designed differently for its regeneration in 2006, says Terri M. Coccia, event coordinator. It was designed to get people moving around the lake to each of the businesses that have bought a stake in the event by giving their cooperative dollars to make the event a success. Businesses and entities that put in money to participate then each planned an event for their own business locations to attract visitors to them throughout the weekend. For example, Friday from 3-4p.m. Sponge Bob Squarepants will be at the Pirate’s Cove Pub & Grille, and Saturday from 4-7p.m. Felix and the Hurricanes will play at Sir Barney’s Restaurant. Sunday from 10a.m.- 5p.m. Uncle Phil’s General Store will have chainsaw carving. But events are going on continuously for the whole weekend at various venues to keep visitors moving around the lake creating fun and positive energy. (Please see the full schedule attached to this release.) A large number of local businesses that are not holding events, have still joined in as partners to help promote the event and the area.
-- C&G Savings Bank and the park even gave prizes for three lucky winners that get their tour pass stamped at the businesses featured on the pass. The prizes include $500 in cash from the bank, a weekend cabin rental at the park, or a family weekend camping package in the park. The businesses on the tour pass where visitors can get their pass stamped include Glendale Boat Sales, DiDomenico’s Anchor Inn, Noel’s Drive-In, Uncle Phil’s General Store, Sir Barney’s Restaruant, Prince Gallitzin Marina, Pirate’s Cove Pub & Grille, Double K Restaurant, Ten in One Sporting Goods, Sharon’s Pizza Palace and J.G. Bait Shop.
-- “We want to show our hills are alive with the sound of visitors,” said Coccia. “Our businesses depend on the park and the lake for our livelihood. It is all of our jobs to be partners in this effort, and we’ve done a great job for our first reattempt,” she added.

Vendors sought for homecoming celebration
EBENSBURG -- The Ebensburg Homecoming committee is currently seeking vendors for the annual Homecoming bazaar to be held in the downtown on Saturday, July 29th. School groups, crafters, flea marketers, organizations, church groups, and non-profits are invited to reserve an 8’ x 10’ space for only $5.00. The bazaar will take place from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. as part of the 10 th annual Ebensburg Homecoming celebration. Vendors will placed along sidewalks and will need to bring their own table(s). All vendors must pre-register by July 26 th due to limited space. Electricity is not available and food vendors will not be accepted.
